Optical fiber construction method
In practice, optical fibers are connected in two ways: hot fusion and cold connection.
Hot welding
The two optical fibers are fused and joined using a high-voltage arc from an optical fiber splicer. This method was generally used for long-distance communication construction in the early days. But with the increase of national demand for network speed and the rise of fiber to the home, hot fusion is also used. For short distance optical fiber laying construction (such as residential broadband network, optical fiber to the home, etc.), has become the international mainstream optical fiber construction method.
Cold shut
The cold connection is relative to the hot connection. There is no need for high voltage arc discharge to melt the fiber, and fiber cold joints are used to connect the fiber or connect the fiber to optical communication equipment.
